Roundabouts of Porta Vicenza ‐ Porta Padova ‐ Porta Bassano ‐ Porta Treviso
The project concerns the arrangement of four roundabouts included in the traffic flow system outside the built-up area of Cittadella, positioned in the direction of the four cardinal points in relation to the urban centre.
The Municipality asked us to redesign the landscaping of the roundabouts, which were in very poor condition and simply grassed over.
The project redeveloped these spaces by giving each one character through original and impactful solutions, while nevertheless maintaining a common thread that would make them recognisable through recurring shapes, colours and elements. The ground design is one of the recurring themes in the various roundabouts, with circular flowerbeds and concentric curved lines, defined by corten steel edges to emphasise the curved lines and precisely separate the different areas of stone materials and lapillus mulch, which contrast with the volumes of the vegetation and also perform a decorative function.
The recurring shape in the composition is “the circle”, chosen to recall the circular form of the historic walls of the City, which make it famous throughout the world.
For the vegetation, the choice was to propose large masses of evergreen flowering shrub plants, which in spring and summer “light up” with colour, alternated with arrangements of green volumes with evergreen leaves that define the flowerbeds even in the winter months, when the flowering plants are dormant. The solutions adopted are always aimed at easy and economical management and maintenance.
In all areas, laser-cut corten steel structures have been designed and created, recalling the crenellated walls and bearing polished stainless steel lettering with the Cittadella logo and the words “Cittadella Città d’Arte”.
