Restoration of the parish church stained-glass windows
The restoration concerns the 28 windows of the church along the main bay, the chapel windows and the chapel rose window.
CRISTO RE
All the openings in the church and chapel, including the rose windows and lunettes, are fitted with internal window frames consisting of an iron frame and windows with polychrome cathedral glass set in lead, as well as an external frame, also in iron, with transparent patterned rectangular glass panes. The design of the windows was conceived by the church architect, Vincenzo Bonato from Schio (VI), and carried out by local craftsmen; according to historical and photographic documentation, when the construction of the church was completed in 1931, the windows were already complete with both internal and external frames.
The decoration of the artistic stained-glass windows has no theological content, but features a sober and repeated design created by the architect, as can be seen from the design drawing and the attached historical photographs. The restoration work includes interventions both on the internal pictorial glass section, with its internal structural frame and openable sash, and on the glass and frame of the external window.
INTERNAL WINDOW FRAME AND SASH: restoration of the frame through thorough cleaning and rust removal, application of rust converter, and final micaceous iron paint finish to protect against metal oxidation.
INTERNAL PICTORIAL GLASS SECTION: removal of the glass panels from the frame + restoration through cleaning of the elements and replacement of deteriorated pieces + consolidation through re-puttying; repositioning of the panels and fixing with a supporting protective glass for the artistic stained-glass window.
EXTERNAL WINDOW FRAME: modification of the external frame with removal of crosspieces and mullions; restoration of the frame through thorough cleaning and rust removal, application of rust converter, and final micaceous iron paint finish to protect against metal oxidation.
EXTERNAL GLASS SECTION: installation of new external anti-reflective safety protective glass, 4+4, with PVB film for ultraviolet ray absorption, sealed onto the frame.
